About the Band

Cary Dachtyl -  Drums

Also members of the Heavyweights:

The band plays a touch of Blues, Jazz and American roots music. The members of the Heavyweights first played together as a group in the highly regarded band Soul Satyr. In recent years Johnny Mack’s song writing has evolved and after collaboration with John Poppovich, the Heavyweights where born. John and Johnny have been performing since 2009 around Ohio at several venues and festivals.  The current (permanent) linup includes drummer Cary Dachtyl and bassist/vocalist Lenny Fatigati. The influence of the new rhythm section has opened up more musical possibilities and the bands creativity continues to grow.

The band has most recently performed at the Dayton Blue’s Festival, Big Blues & Brews, and will be featured at the 2014 Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival.

Band members have been featured on dozens of studio releases and collectively have over 100 years of performing experience and we still look good.

We have played at B.B. Kings, Buddy Guy’s, Monterey Blues Festival, Biscuits & Blues in San Francisco, Chicago Blues Festival, Cesare’s Palace, Pensacola Jazz Festival, East Lansing Jazz Festival, Riverfront Amphitheater, National Constitution Center in NYC, Cooper Stadium, Lake Cumberland Rock Festival, Mermaids in St. Petersburg, The Great Southern Theater, Ohio Theater, Palace Theater, Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival, London Jazz and Blues Festival, Buckeye Cruse for Cancer, ComFest, and Carnegie Hall.

Band members have also played with Willie Pooch, Bob Margolin, C.J. Chenier, Larry Coryell, Joe Frazier, Anson Funderburgh, Guitar Shorty, Gary Allegretto, Rob Roy Parnell, Gene “King Saxe” Walker, Teeny Tucker, Sean Carney, Long Tall Deb, Yes, Moody Blues, Diana Ross, Deana Martin, Crystal Gayle, and Manheim Steamroller as well as many other Blues and Jazz artists.

That’s why we are the HEAVYWEIGHTS.
